For our February Service Project, our team worked with the Prescott Unified School District’s Farm to School program at their Taylor Hicks Elementary School garden. This day of service was dedicated to digging a 2-3 foot trench around the perimeter of the garden. Once the trench is fully dug, chicken wire will be inserted. This is in an effort to address the gopher problem the garden has been facing. The garden is surrounded by gopher mounds, and oftentimes, the gophers will dig under the garden’s fence and eat the contents of the garden. With the new chicken wire trench, the gophers will be unable to enter the garden underground, thus protecting the garden and its contents. Previously, our team assisted in the installation of the fence around the garden. It was exciting to continue that project in a new capacity and further support our community through this service project.
