Graduate Student Scholarships

Thank you for your interest in applying for a G.E.M. Environmental Graduate Student Scholarship.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are awarded each quarter with soft deadlines on the second Friday of February, May, August, and November and committee reviews the first Monday of March, June, September, and December. Students not working on advanced degrees need not apply, but may be considered for one of our other
scholarship opportunities.

Award:
$1,000 cash award

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Previously obtained a bachelor’s degree
  • Currently or planning on pursuing a graduate degree in a S.T.E.M field from a college or university in the United States.
  • GPA above 2.5 and in “Good Standing” at current school
  • Age 18 or older or have signed permission by a legal guardian
Application Requirements:
  • Copy of academic transcripts from current institution
  • Letter of recommendation strongly encouraged (Submitted directly to the Director of Scholarship (Scholarships@gemenvironmental.org) by the faculty member, professor, or academic advisor providing the recommendation)
Personal Statement:
  • 1-3 pages in length
  • Explain how you plan to pursue your academic goals and potential career in a S.T.E.M field
  • Cite 1-2 credible sources that support the significance of your research
  • Explain how you will use your funds to cultivate your academic goals, research, plan for continuing your education, or potential career
Do not include your name, the names of any family members, or any other identifying information in your statement that can be used to give a committee member selection bias

Please fill out the online application below. You will be asked to attach several documents at the end of the application, including transcripts and a personal essay. Note that race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political affiliation will not be considered in the application process and should be excluded from the statement. Scholarships are awarded purely on the applicant’s enrollment in STEM programs and his/her desire to contribute to their respective field.
    Applicants must have a GPA above 2.5.
